Public education is the foundation of economic opportunity and a healthy democracy, and it is under direct attack in Texas.

Samantha Lopez-Resendez has spent her career fighting for students, educators, and families. As a former bilingual educator and longtime Chief of Staff to Representative Donna Howard, she helped pass landmark legislation expanding advanced math access, opening doors to Algebra I and post secondary credentials for thousands of students statewide.

Samantha will fight to fully fund public schools, increase and index the Basic Allotment to inflation, and support teachers and support staff with fair pay and sustainable funding. She believes every child, regardless of zip code, language spoken at home, or socio-economic background deserves access to a high quality public education. That commitment has earned her the trust and endorsement of education leaders across Texas, including the Vice Chair of the House Public Education Committee, Diego Bernal.

Accessible and Affordable Health Care for All Texans

Health care decisions belong to patients and doctors, not politicians or insurance companies.

Samantha has been at the forefront of legislative fights to protect access to reproductive health care, contraception, and life saving medical services.

Samantha will fight to expand access to affordable, comprehensive health care, protect reproductive freedom, and ensure insurance companies are not denying or delaying necessary care. She believes Texans deserve dignity, autonomy, and the ability to make medical decisions based on science and compassion.

Housing Affordability for the People Who Power Our Communities

Central Texas is growing, but rising housing costs are pushing teachers, state employees, and working families out of the communities they serve.

She will fight for smart housing solutions that prioritize affordability for essential workers, support responsible local decision making, and ensure state policy helps communities grow without displacement.

A Reliable and Resilient Energy Grid and Strong Infrastructure

Texans deserve an energy grid and infrastructure system that works, especially as extreme weather becomes more frequent.

She will fight for a stronger grid, investments in energy resilience, and proactive planning that protects communities during heat waves, winter storms, floods, and wildfires.

Protecting Access to Higher Education and Academic Freedom

Higher education should be a pathway to opportunity, not a political battleground.

Samantha helped strip criminalization language from legislation targeting peaceful on campus protest and fought to defend the Texas Dream Act.

She will work to reestablish an in-state tuition program for first generation and dreamer students.

Public Safety Through Prevention and Education

Keeping communities safe means investing in prevention, education, and evidence based solutions.

Samantha helped secure funding for firearm safety education in K-12 schools through the Keep ‘Em Safe Texas campaign.
